Dr. Shelley B. Bull                       Back       Next >

WHO:   Senior Investigator; Professor in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto; Associate Editor of the Canadian Journal of Statistics.

WHAT:  Dr. Bull is one of only a dozen research biostatisticians working in human genetics in Canada. Her research involves analyzing a large set of genes from across the entire genome in order to find the important subset of genes and to better understand the potential function and association of particular genes with breast cancer. This study will enhance prediction of early recurrence and associated risk factors.

Dr. Bull isalso developing and using statistics to help solve some of the genetic puzzles linked to type 1 diabetes, to better understand what factors lead to susceptibility of associated eye, kidney, and vascular complications, and to high levels of heart disease determinants such as blood pressure and cholesterol.

WHY:  Dr. Bull looks at both the causes and prognoses of diseases that strike many Canadians. Her work will enhance our ability to predict early recurrence of breast cancer and associated risk factors, and increase our understanding of risk factors that can lead to serious complications of type 1 diabetes.
