Q: Doesn’t the Government cover most of the Hospital’s expenses?
A: Government does fund approximately 80% of our operating budget and 90% of the cost of our new construction; our needs consistently outweigh the funds provided, and donors play a critical role in bridging the gap.
In addition, Government does not fund equipment and technology costs, nor does government fund research, even though 75% of health research is done in hospitals. So you can see how vital philanthropy is to ongoing patient care and research.
Q: How will I know if my gift is doing what you say it will?
A: We will tell you what you helped us achieve through regular newsletters (print and e-mail), this web site and our annual report. In some cases, you will receive updates about the program or area to which you have contributed.
Q: Can I direct my gift to a certain area?
A: Absolutely. You may support any of our campaign priorities (Right from the Start, Research Creates The Best Medicine, equipment and technology, highest priorities) or a particular program within the Hospital.
Q: Can I give a gift in memory of someone special?
A: Yes. You can arrange to send a Tribute Card or Certificate to honour a special person or event.
Q: Can I or my business hold an event where the proceeds go to Mount Sinai Hospital?
A: We’d be delighted! Our Events team would be pleased to work with you. Call Taline Artinian at 416-586-8203, ext. 8838 or send her an e-mail.
Q: How much of my money will actually go to Hospital programs and research?
A: We’re proud to tell you that 85 cents of every dollar you donate goes directly to providing The Best Medicine. Our fundraising costs are among the lowest for non-profit organizations.
